There was a time when I sat on the other side of the table.

Before I became a financial planner and educator, I worked in bank product marketing. Part of my job was helping connect customers to offers and perks that most people completely ignored. We knew those cashback deals were there... we just also knew a lot of people would never log in and look.

Fast forward to today, and I’m still surprised by how many people think they need another coupon app before checking the banking app they already have.

Here’s the thing: your debit card and credit card may already be helping you save money—you just have to activate the offers. Every month, I make it a habit to scroll through my bank and credit card cashback offers before I shop. It takes a few minutes, but those dollars add up over time. That’s money I would’ve left on the table otherwise. I compare to my budget for the month to give balance.

Then I stack my savings. Cashback offers. Rakuten. fetch rewards . capital
one If I’m already buying something that’s in my budget, I want every dollar working as hard as I did to earn it.

Saving money isn’t always about cutting back. Sometimes it’s about paying attention to the tools you already have.
