US allies have united to work on a ‘Plan B’ for the Strait of Hormuz. At the invitation of the United Kingdom, India and more than 60 countries joined a virtual summit to discuss ways to reopen the vital waterway, whose closure has sent oil prices spiralling. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the talks focused on “the strength of our international determination” to reopen the strait. Iranian attacks on commercial vessels, along with the threat of further strikes, have halted nearly all traffic through the waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the world’s oceans, shutting a critical route for global oil supplies and sending petroleum prices sharply higher.
