The footage captured a tense moment near the White House as a reporter ducked for cover after gunshots were fired during a confrontation involving Secret Service officers and an armed suspect.

According to the U.S. Secret Service, the individual approached a security checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, near the White House, pulled a firearm from a bag, and opened fire at officers. Secret Service personnel returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect at the scene.

Authorities said a bystander was also struck by gunfire during the incident, though the extent of the injuries remains unclear. Officials added that investigators are still determining whose shot hit the bystander.

A law enforcement official said the suspect had previously been identified as an emotionally disturbed individual and was subject to a prior “stay-away order.”
