Britain and France are backing a major new push to strengthen Ukraine's missile capabilities as leaders of the Coalition of the Willing gather in Kyiv on Ukraine's 35th Independence Day. The UK says it has approved Ukraine's request to share Storm Shadow technology, with British and French industry set to work with Ukraine on developing the capability.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and leaders supporting Ukraine against Russia. The British prime minister said the UK would continue backing Ukraine and highlighted the urgent need for additional air-defense systems to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian missile attacks.

The UK also called for stronger pressure on Russia through sanctions, action against the shadow fleet and measures targeting Russian oil and LNG revenues. Leaders stressed that Ukraine should not be forced to surrender territory and called for a full and unconditional ceasefire.

The meeting also addressed plans for a future multinational force for Ukraine, with the operational headquarters expected to move to the UK in the autumn.
