Sir Keir Starmer delivered his final speech outside 10 Downing Street before travelling to Buckingham Palace to formally resign as Prime Minister. Declaring "My work is done," Starmer reflected on leading Labour from its 2019 election defeat to a landslide victory in 2024 and defended his government's record on the economy, public services, immigration, national security and Britain's global standing.
Starmer thanked the British people for the opportunity to serve, praised his family, colleagues and civil servants, and said he would leave office "with good grace" and "with a smile." He also pledged his full support to Andy Burnham, who is set to become Labour's new leader and Britain's next Prime Minister after meeting King Charles III.
