In a major diplomatic development aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff held high-stakes discussions with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv following a 3-hour meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Joined by European security advisers, the US-led talks represent a renewed push by Washington to mediate a resolution to the 4.5-year-long conflict.

Former Indian senior diplomat Ajay Bisaria joined DD India to offer strategic insights on the visit. Bisaria highlighted that renewed US diplomatic engagement is a promising step toward breaking the stalemate, though core hurdles remain—notably territorial compromises over Russian-occupied oblasts and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. He noted that while European powers remain key stakeholders, primary momentum hinges on direct engagement between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow.
