Breaking News — U.S. forces in Jordan are under missile attack after Iran retaliated against American strikes on Iranian launchers.

Iran has launched missiles toward U.S. military positions in Jordan, according to reports, triggering a rapid response from American and Jordanian air defenses.

The attack comes after U.S. forces struck two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island, near the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.

According to Reuters, the United States said those launchers were being prepared for an operation involving rockets and sea mines in the Strait.

Now Iran appears to have responded.

Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst reported that multiple missiles were being fired toward U.S. bases in Jordan, with American forces working to intercept the incoming weapons.

Jordanian authorities have also reported that its air defenses intercepted eight missiles during the latest escalation.

The confrontation is significant because it comes after weeks of relative calm between Washington and Tehran.

And now the fighting has once again crossed into another country hosting American forces.

The Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of the crisis because it is one of the world's most important energy routes.
