European Council President António Costa meets Andris Kulbergs, Prime Minister of Latvia, ahead of the European Council in Brussels.

The meeting comes as EU leaders prepare to discuss Ukraine, defence, migration, competitiveness, the Middle East and the next long-term EU budget. Latvia’s position is especially important as a Baltic frontline state facing pressure from Russia, Belarus and hybrid security threats.

Costa’s official schedule confirms the meeting with Prime Minister Kulbergs on 18 June 2026, just before the European Council begins. The summit agenda includes competitiveness, the 2028-2034 EU budget, Ukraine, the Middle East, migration and illicit drugs.
