NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London during his two-day visit to the United Kingdom. The talks came at a moment of heightened security pressure across Europe, with NATO focusing on defence spending, support for Ukraine, deterrence against Russia and a larger European contribution to the Alliance.

During the same UK visit, Rutte argued that NATO is becoming more European, with European Allies and Canada expected to spend, produce and do more for their own security — an approach he described as “NATO 3.0.”

Ukraine also remains a central issue for the Alliance. Earlier this month, Rutte urged NATO Allies and partners to maintain urgent military support for Kyiv, stressing that delays in supplying critical equipment cost lives.

The London meeting therefore sits within a broader NATO push for stronger European defence, continued transatlantic cooperation and sustained support for Ukraine.
