European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas has issued a stark warning about the state of the global order, highlighting what she described as a breakdown of international law. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Kallas pointed to two major crises — Russia’s war in Ukraine and the ongoing conflict in West Asia — as evidence of a shifting global landscape.

According to Kallas, the world is entering a new phase defined by competition, coercion, and power politics. She warned that a handful of military powers are increasingly seeking to establish spheres of influence, challenging the rules-based international system that has shaped global stability for decades.

In this context, Kallas emphasised the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations. She stated that European Union support for the UN is now more critical than ever, as multilateral institutions face growing pressure.
Her remarks reflect rising concern within Europe about the erosion of global norms and the need for collective action to preserve international stability.
