During a press conference in Helsingborg, Sweden, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed major global security concerns involving NATO, Iran, Europe, Arctic security, and the war in Ukraine.

Rubio warned that Europe must prepare for a future with a smaller permanent American troop presence as the United States reassesses military priorities across the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and Western Hemisphere.

He also urged NATO allies to begin preparing a “Plan B” for the Strait of Hormuz amid growing tensions with Iran, warning that disruptions to global shipping lanes could heavily impact Europe and international trade.

Rubio highlighted Sweden’s growing strategic importance inside NATO, calling the country a “model ally” with strong industrial and technological capabilities. He also confirmed that NATO is placing greater focus on Arctic security cooperation among allied nations.

On Ukraine, Rubio reiterated continued U.S. support while stressing that any eventual end to the war would likely require a negotiated settlement rather than a traditional military victory.

The remarks come amid increasing geopolitical tensions and ongoing debates over NATO’s future role in global security.
