Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has delivered a blunt response to Donald Trump as Canada prepares to retaliate against new US tariffs. Speaking in Winnipeg, Kinew said Canada should “never appease” Trump and backed Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to fight back.
Kinew said Manitoba would stand behind Canadian workers and businesses facing uncertainty, particularly industries including heavy vehicle manufacturing and steel. He also urged Canadians to buy Canadian and support local businesses as part of the response.
The premier went further in his criticism of Trump, saying the US president had made life more expensive for Americans through tariffs and other policies. He argued that Canadians should remain united while continuing to distinguish between the Trump administration and the American people.
