New data shows that India remained the world's third-largest source of Schengen visa applications in 2025, with more than 1.15 million applications filed. However, the rejection rate stood at 15.8%, meaning thousands of applicants lost money on non-refundable visa fees. In total, Indian travellers reportedly lost around $16.23 million due to rejected applications, placing India among the countries that lost the most money globally from Schengen visa refusals. Yet demand continues to rise.
