Burkina Faso is changing, and some of the biggest changes are happening on the roads.
In this video, I take you inside The New TRAORE LAW Transforming Burkina Faso in 2026, from the introduction of intelligent traffic surveillance and automated traffic ticketing to stricter enforcement of road safety rules across Ouagadougou.
Traffic cameras can now monitor violations, identify vehicle number plates and issue electronic fines without the driver being stopped. Motorbike riders are also facing tougher enforcement, including the requirement to wear crash helmets, while traffic lights and modern road infrastructure are reshaping movement across the capital.
But there is another side to these new rules that many people may not expect. Some traffic offenders who fail to comply can face penalties that go beyond paying a fine, including community-type work connected to Faso Mêbo, where offenders may participate in activities such as street cleaning, clearing drainage channels and making paving stones.
I also take you around some of the major infrastructure projects transforming Ouagadougou, including the Northern Interchange and bypass, the Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso expressway and other road developments.
Is this a new era of discipline and modernization in Burkina Faso, or are these measures going too far?
Come with me as I experience these changes on the ground and speak with people directly affected by the new system.
🇧🇫 Burkina Faso in 2026, a country changing before our eyes.
