Liverpool’s interest in Ibrahim Mbaye is seriously interesting because the more I look at his profile, the more I understand why Liverpool are looking at him.

Mbaye is one of the most exciting young attackers coming through at PSG, but this is about much more than simply signing another wonderkid.

There are elements of his game that could fit Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool extremely well: the athleticism, directness, ability to attack space and the potential to become a genuine difference-maker from wide areas.

And yes… there is a reason Sadio Mané features on the thumbnail.

I’m NOT saying Ibrahim Mbaye is the next Sadio Mané. That would be ridiculous at this stage of his career. But there are certain qualities and circumstances around Mbaye that make the comparison extremely interesting and Liverpool clearly see something worth pursuing.

• The qualities that make him such an exciting prospect
• Why the Sadio Mané comparison is worth discussing
• Where he could fit under Andoni Iraola
• The weaknesses and risks Liverpool would be taking on
• And whether I think Liverpool should actually make this move

Mbaye has enormous potential, but potential alone isn’t enough at Liverpool.
