Captain Ibrahim Traoré has taken another bold step in Burkina Faso's drive toward economic sovereignty and national pride.
During the graduation of the 25th class of Active-Duty Officer Cadets, newly commissioned officers proudly marched in military uniforms made from locally woven Burkinabè fabric inspired by the famous Cencengu tradition. The move symbolizes more than a new uniform—it represents a powerful message that Burkina Faso believes in producing, wearing, and investing in its own products.
At the same time, Burkina Faso has announced remarkable progress in protecting one of Africa's greatest resources—its gold.

The country officially recorded more than $6 billion worth of gold through official channels during the first half of 2026. With stronger oversight, mining cooperatives, designated mining corridors, and increased state participation, Burkina Faso says its gold should benefit Burkinabè citizens instead of disappearing through illegal smuggling.
