Burkina Faso says its armed forces are undergoing one of the most significant military transformations in the country's post-independence history under Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Four years after Traoré came to power, Burkina Faso is highlighting major investments in military equipment, logistics, air capabilities, artillery, engineering, transportation, medical support and equipment for soldiers operating on the front lines.

In a government presentation under the theme “De la Parole à l’Acte” — “From Words to Action,” military officials describe the scale of equipment delivered to Burkina Faso's national forces.

One of the most striking claims is that, in roughly six decades of independence, the country's armed forces have never possessed this amount of military equipment.

But this transformation goes beyond weapons.

Burkina Faso says it is strengthening:

🔹 Air capabilities
🔹 Artillery and air-defence capabilities
🔹 Military engineering equipment
🔹 Logistical transportation
🔹 Medical support
🔹 Individual and collective equipment
🔹 Operational support for forces in the field

For Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the broader objective is tied to a central theme of his leadership: sovereignty and national self-reliance.

Burkina Faso wants to develop an armed force capable not simply of confronting today's security challenges, but of protecting the country for decades to come.

The transformation also comes as Burkina Faso strengthens security cooperation with Mali and Niger through the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

But military sovereignty requires more than purchasing equipment.

It requires trained personnel, engineers, mechanics, pilots, medical teams, logistics specialists and the ability to maintain and sustain equipment over the long term.
