NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has resigned after four years in office, amid mounting pressure over the state of Nigerian football. He announced his decision at a press conference in Abuja, following consultations with his family, friends and football stakeholders.

His resignation comes less than a month before the NFF’s scheduled September 27 election and after growing scrutiny over the poor performance of Nigeria’s senior national teams, including their failure to qualify for the 2026 and 2027 FIFA World Cups.
