Why Anwar Ibrahim No Longer Knows What Malaysians Want

Many people are puzzled why Anwar Ibrahim appears increasingly out of touch with the public after two years in power.

The main reason is confirmation bias — the tendency to only accept information that confirms what you already believe, while rejecting anything that contradicts it.

This bias becomes far more dangerous when it is reinforced by an echo chamber — an environment where only agreeable voices are allowed in.

In Anwar’s administration, this echo chamber is tightly controlled. Anyone who dares to voice a different opinion or brings bad news is quickly removed.

A clear example is Rafizi Ramli, his former Economic Minister and longtime ally, who was removed from cabinet in June 2025 after openly disagreeing with certain government decisions.

Now the inner circle is filled with syncopated bootlickers, brown-nosers, and apple-polishers who only tell him what he wants to hear. Unpleasant truths and public discontent are either downplayed or dismissed as opposition propaganda.

As a result, he only receives information that confirms he is doing well. Over time, he has slowly lost touch with what ordinary Malaysians actually want and need.

This is exactly how even intelligent leaders can completely lose the plot — let alone a pseudo-intellectual.
