Take the case off your pillow and really look at it. Yellowed, spotted, gone from white to a dingy sallow color, and you never knew because the pillowcase hides it. You have been sleeping against that for years, and you probably thought a stained pillow was a ruined pillow. It very often is not. Most yellowed pillows come clean again, white or near it, in your own washing machine, for pennies. Here is how, and which pillows you can wash and which you must not.

A word of care: check the care tag first, and do not machine wash a foam pillow that forbids it. Use only plain laundry soap with no bleach. And above all, dry the pillow completely to the center before it goes back on your bed, because a pillow left even slightly damp inside grows mildew and mold you will be breathing against every night.
