Connecticut families have new opportunities to save on back-to-school shopping. A new state law that took effect July 1 makes school supplies including notebooks, folders, crayons, glue, scissors, markers and lunchboxes exempt from Connecticut’s 6.35% sales tax.

From Sunday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 22, shoppers can also avoid the 6.35% sales tax on qualifying shoes, clothing and backpacks. Each item must cost less than $300, an increase from the previous $100-per-item limit. Electronics are not included.
