At fifty-two, I bought these ten groceries before October because I didn’t want to pay more later. Instead of waiting until I ran out, I started buying a few everyday staples ahead when the price made sense.
In this video, I share the ten groceries I chose, why they earned a place in my pantry, and what happened when I stopped shopping only for the week ahead. From butter, flour, rice, and pasta to canned goods, coffee, broth, and frozen vegetables, these were foods I already knew we would use.
The biggest surprise wasn’t just the price difference. Keeping the right groceries on hand helped me make fewer emergency shopping trips, avoid impulse purchases, reduce food waste, and make simple meals from what was already at home.
This isn’t about panic buying or filling your house with food. It’s about buying intentionally, knowing what your household actually uses, and creating a little more breathing room in the grocery budget before retirement.
