One of the biggest ways we saved money building our homestead was simple: we stopped assuming everything had to be new. 😂

Old barn wood became trim, beams, shelves and countertops. Trees became our hardwood floors. Old windows became our house AND greenhouse. Telephone poles became posts. Used metal became barns.

Did it save us thousands? Absolutely.

Was it easier? Absolutely NOT. 😂 Repurposing usually means more hauling, cleaning, fixing, storing and figuring out how to make imperfect materials work.

Sometimes saving money just means deciding whether you’d rather spend money or time.

And apparently around here, before we buy something new… we check whether somebody else is throwing one away first. 😂
