Different grocery stores win in different areas because of how grocery pricing works.

Many stores use something called loss leader pricing, where a few items are priced extremely low to bring shoppers in, while other items carry higher margins.

That’s why one store might be cheapest for pantry staples, another store has the best weekly grocery sales, and another might be best for bulk grocery shopping.

This is why it's smart to use the Three-Tier Grocery Method.

Instead of trying to do all your grocery shopping in one place, you let each store do what it does best.

This is one of the easiest ways to lower your grocery bill and save money on groceries without changing what you eat.

Tier 1 is your base grocery store.
This is where you buy most of your everyday staples like dairy, bread, pantry items, and canned goods. Stores like Walmart, Aldi, or WinCo are often the cheapest for these basics.

Tier 2 is your sale store.
This is where you shop the weekly grocery ads and only buy items that are deeply discounted that week. Stores like Safeway, Kroger, or Albertsons often run aggressive promotions on meat, produce, and seasonal items.

Tier 3 is your bulk store.
This is where you buy specific items in larger quantities when the price per unit is actually cheaper. Stores like Costco or Sam’s Club can be great for things like rice, olive oil, meat, and paper products.

Here’s what a simple grocery trip might look like using this strategy:

STORE 1️⃣: Base store
milk
eggs
bread
pantry staples

STORE 2️⃣: Sale store
sale meat
fruit promotions

STORE 3️⃣: Bulk store
rice
paper towels
olive oil

Using a strategy like this can make a big difference over time because you’re being intentional about where you buy your groceries and how you plan your grocery shopping.

Let me know, would you go to threw different places for grocery shopping? I think I'm already kind of doing this, just not on the same day. 🤔
